Raymond Gardner is the husband of Kat. The pair were high school sweethearts who had their first child when she was just 18 years old, they have since had more children and settled as a family in Eastwick, where they were born and raised. However, a series of setbacks and Raymond's temper and drinking habits causes a tumultuous marriage, especially when Kat finds a new lease of life once meeting Darryl Van Horne.

Raymond was first seen at the Founder's Day event in town, publicly drinking beer, much to the annoyance of Kat. After gaining confidence with newfound friendships Roxie and Joanna, Kat confronts him about his behavior, but when he resists she accidentally triggers an earthquake and knocks him off his hammock. Raymond is startled and Kat dismisses it as a coincidence. Later, he witnesses Kat drunk with Roxie and Joanna in the town fountain and takes her home. The pair have an explosive argument about Raymond's drinking and attitude, which ends in Kat once again accidentally using her powers on him, striking him down with a bolt of lightning.
She goes to visit him, where he demands a divorce and threatens to take the kids away from her.
